Another Photogenic Trip of Eorzea

With the recent release of patch 3.1 to Final Fantasy XIV came a couple of ‘QoL’ features outside of the usual PvE content and crafting/gathering additions. Yesireebob; those pushing their way through content new and old were suddenly graced by the gods with new ways to capture those ever-precious memories MMOs tend to throw our way.

These 2 new screenshot capabilities came in the /command variety in the way of /gpose (group pose) and /icam (idle camera). Now while the the latter was more or less designed to give a bit of variety to ‘idling’ your way through dungeon queues, the former ‘gpose’ was designed to make it easier for groups of friends and allies to synchronize their victory shrieks after a successful outing into whatever hell they decide to toss themselves into.

But that certainly isn’t all it’s good for…!

Thanks to the nifty little ‘Depth of Field’ effect automatically thrown in to give those ‘group pose’ shots a little more flare, the command has become a shortcut of sorts for all of Eorzea’s budding photographers to breathe a little more life into their subjects without having to rely on complicated Photoshop sessions.

I’ve only had a day or two to mess around with both commands so far, but quickly seeing the potential here. Final Fantasy XIV has some beautiful sky-boxes and plenty of varied landscapes to weave into some quick shots while you’re passing through areas. I picked out 12 to share, just like before!

(Warning! There will likely be in-direct spoilers here!)

Big shame with that obvious blemish on the second image. /icam cycles too quick to do comparison shots with and without ReShade sometimes. I wonder if I can disable that little message…

I can take as many shots as I like so long as people aren’t too keen on me doing my job and keeping them alive!

People refused to join with the /gpose in the engine room. After 30 minutes of figuring out how to fuel the airship for a trip into the Diadem, it turned out the Free Company leader was offline and haven’t given any rank privileges to allow us to actually leave on said trip. It didn’t pan out!

I’m not even sure if that beast was dead at that point or just springing to life. The bulbs on its head were pretty enticing, though…

The second shot was a send-off for Final Fantasy XI too. The game just had its final ever content patch after 13 active years. I had a few spells with that game when it was far into its life on both the Xbox 360 and the PC.

Nobody would ever play it with me, though, so I couldn’t keep playing for long. It was far before it got its more ‘single-player’ oriented changes brought in. Shame the download/set-up procedure never improved. There was a lot of love poured into that game…

While I don’t do a whole lot of group adventuring these days — making it difficult to make proper use of the /pose function — leaving the idle camera running while I get other bits of work done gives a surprising amount of kodak moments!

Also lets you spy on couples being a little too close with each other, too…

I’ll make sure to get some shots in the Diadem eventually!
